estaba viendo aquí en la colección de objetos de cultura Maya, y mirá esto que encontré:

Dice: Clásico tardío, por el año 600 al 900.

Región: Isla de Jaina.

El sitio arqueológico en la isla de Jaina es muy famoso por la calidad de las piezas de barro encontradas.

Este tipo de figuras de barro se hacían con molde, y luego se aplicaban elementos a mano para darles identidad a las piezas

Pero lo que digo yo es: Porqué esa nariz?

todo se ve tan realista y detallado que me pongo a pensar: Que significa esto?

Lástima que en el museo no dicen nada sobre esto.

De todas formas, el espíritu de este artista nos habla a través del tiempo.

ML 02 Incensario teotihuacano

Este elaborado incensario une dos mundos: un objeto ritual de tradición teotihuacana y una narración mitológica maya.

Proviene de la costa sur de Guatemala, entre el año 350 y 500 de esta era.

En la parte superior vemos a un ser sobrenatural, quizá un ancestro divinizado, emergiendo de una gran concha.

Esta concha no es sólo decoración: simboliza una entrada al inframundo acuático, un lugar profundo relacionado con el agua, la muerte y el renacimiento.

La figura parece salir hacia el mundo humano. Con su mano izquierda se sostiene del borde de la concha, como si estuviera cruzando un umbral entre dos realidades.

La base del incensario muestra rasgos asociados a la élite de Teotihuacan, como el adorno nasal trapezoidal y grandes orejeras laterales.

Así, esta pieza no sólo servía para quemar incienso: también representaba poder, linaje y el viaje sagrado entre el inframundo y el mundo de los vivos.
